That’s my beautiful maternal grandmother, Bobbie, in green during some bougie early 1990s soiree. She is flanked by her sisters-in-law — her brother’s wife Betty is on the left, and her husband’s sister Mary Elizabeth is on the right. I love this photo because it’s a visual reminder of two important geri-takeaways I hope to copycat during my Golden Years. First, aren’t they stunning? They aren’t super fit, or injected, or wearing razzy-dazzy I’m hot ensembles, or all thickly made up — they look like three snazzy grandmothers having a freaking blast! Second, this is what not having drama with your family looks like. These ladies didn’t spill tea on each other or argue or get in kerfuffles over dumb stuff. They were family and they were friends — they were a team and they were each other’s community. I think maintaining a squad is important as we get older, and even better when its members are family — in-law, outlaw, above the law, whatever. A close team can be a gamechanger on that sunset stroll. #GrandPlans
