Put hospice care at the top of your research list, geri-me. Don’t forget about this option or be too scared to consider it. Hospice is a wonderful, effective and usually FREE resource. No, it’s not just for people who are in their final hours. No, it’s not like welcoming the Grim Reaper to your situation. It is a life SAVER in every way.

When Dad was in the hospital, we called a hospice representative for consult when the doctors could not guarantee he’d have the kind of future or quality of life we knew he wanted. They are loving, real-talk people with hearts of gold and minds of steel.

On the flipside, we called hospice for a friend’s mother who had a more long-term prognosis of death. Hospice made living comfortable and manageable for her for more than a year, and relieved a lot of pressure on the pocketbook.
